Stone Paper

Stone Paper, not a product, but a story.

On this website, we don't want to sell a product, but rather showcase all aspects of the Stone Paper story. That story is based on a transition we want to initiate. No one thinks about paper; it was there, is there, and always will be. And that's partly true; we're not waging a crusade against paper.

But we can't continue with the way we currently handle paper and packaging worldwide. We simply don't have the resources for water, energy, trees, chemicals, or money. And yet, the demand for paper and cardboard is only increasing.

Stone Paper offers the alternative, locally produced with local raw materials, sustainable, no water use, efficient process, etc. Let yourself be surprised by the story and help us preserve this beautiful world.

Applications

Unique features

Stone Paper is a new generation of paper and an excellent alternative to traditional paper. It's a tree-free paper made almost entirely of minerals.

100% waterproof

Liquids such as water and oil do not affect Stone Paper.

No wood fibers
The swelling of the wood fibers destroys wood pulp paper immediately upon contact with a liquid. The result: warping of the print surface, and moisture destroys the product.

Stone Paper is 100% waterproof, so liquids have no effect on the material. After it gets wet, you can simply rub it dry.

Save 18 trees

1 ton of Stone Paper instead of wood pulp paper means oxygen for 40 people per year.

Made entirely from waste.
18 trees have to be cut down for 1 ton of paper.

Stone Paper is made entirely from waste and recycled materials, significantly reducing its environmental impact. One ton of pulp paper requires 18 trees, which are replaced by fast-growing trees that destroy biodiversity. Pulp paper can be recycled seven times, but each process has the same destructive effect on the environment.

Save 2270 liters of water

1 ton of Stone Paper instead of wood pulp paper means 142 days of showering.

Stone Paper: Zero water use
35.000 liters of water are needed for the production of pulp paper.

The production of one ton of wood pulp paper requires 1 liters of water, of which 35.000 liters are wasted. Using Stone Paper therefore saves 2.770 liters per ton of paper. This is equivalent to an average person's drinking water consumption for 2.770 months!

Reduce 929 kg CO02

By producing 1 tonne of Stone Paper instead of wood pulp, you save the amount of CO2 equivalent to a 4.520 kilometre car journey.

Stone Paper 482 kg CO2, Pulp paper 1.431 kg CO2.
CO2 emissions from production to end user: the CO2 emissions caused by the production process, transport, and raw materials. Compared to pulp paper, these emissions are 67% lower. Choosing Stone Paper is comparable to preventing the emissions from a car trip from Amsterdam to Jerusalem.

Save 85% energy

1 ton of Stone Paper instead of wood pulp paper means a saving equivalent to 1,5 years of energy use for a household.

Stone paper requires 3,1 Gigajoules, wood pulp paper 20,4 Gigajoules.
For 1 ton of Stone Paper, you need only 3,1 gigajoules of energy due to the highly efficient production process. This means the energy required is only 15% compared to pulp paper.

No chemicals

These chemicals are necessary to bleach the wood pulp fibers.

Stone Paper contains no harmful substances.
During the production of pulp paper, various harmful chemicals are used to kill microbes and whiten the material. Stone Paper production does not require any of these harmful substances.

Recycling

Stone Paper is recyclable like plastic (although the plastic content is only 20%). Stone Paper must be recycled through the Category 2 recycling stream. Stone Paper is not plastic, nor is it pulp paper. If Stone Paper does end up in the paper recycling stream, it will be separated and diverted to the Category 2 stream or incinerated in a furnace to produce energy. Incineration does not release any toxic fumes because they are not present in the Stone Paper. In fact, the calcium carbonate even acts as a catalyst to neutralize other toxins in the furnace. We could call this incineration process "thermal recycling," but we try to avoid any form of deception.
